Uncharted Planet

A remake of an old middle school painting I did for one of my AP Art summer assignments (unfortunately the picture quality isnt as great as the actual image...)

I love Metroid! Metroid Prime was a game that immeditately captured my love when I began playing it years ago, there is nothing better than being thrown on to a completely unmapped planet and just getting to explore every single corner of the world....

Well then, the whole challenge of this project for me was trying to create a realistic, surreal looking planet for Samus to have explored

There are multiple layers:
1- thin orange acrylic paint for a background color
2- sponge paint a mixture of orange, red, and brown
3- soak edges in red-orange water color
4- create a puddle of orange water color in the center
5- yellow acrylic drops directly onto the orange water color then let dry
6- sponge paint brown in with the wet red-orange water color
7- other touch ups and effects added later
